Siemens Sirene in Griechenland

This is the same SIEMENS siren shown in the first post of the topic, in Pallini. Two years later the roofs of the siren were taken away and they have covered the stator ports with some kind of cloth or tape ?!?

Why would someone do such a thing? (even if the siren is dead)

OK, I went today at Pallini city hall and took some close up photos. It's obvious the siren is broken down.

I asked them if I could get it, they told me that's not easy at all, I must contact several people and maybe several state services... But I think is worth it.

I didn't know that it's rotor is so similar to the E57's

Anyway, it's an old WWII siren and I 'll do everything to rescue it, but I will need luck!

Now, correct me if wrong, the siren's weight is approx. 100 kg?? Any ideas on how I am going to bring it down?

And yes this siren weights about 100kg but don't worry. It's a flat roof. Just take your time, a can of WD-40 and disassemble the old lady.

That's a heavy weight, indeed.

Disassembling is one possibility, but what about
a pulley winch?

For example, look at this:

A pulley (in german called "Flaschenzug") with an
transmission rate of 4:1 and a load capacity of 200 kg.
You can pull a load of 200 kg with a force of 50 kg.
Or - 100 kg with 25 kg of force ...

I think you can ask also in stores for tools or
car accessories for such an useful tool.

Length of the rope must correspond with the height
of the building, of course. And, you must find a
stable point for fixing the pulley, rugged enough
for carrying the full load of abt. 100 kg.

Unbelievable. They told me "come n' get it" and when I went there, was another person and said "the siren isn't going nowhere!" He explained that the others didn't know that the siren is going to be repaired, and he was the one that is in charge for the siren maintenance!

I told him the siren is old etc and he answered "no the siren is quite new and fabricated in the USA " (no comments)

...It was too easy to be true. I was about to call a crane to load the siren in my car... (as they suggested this morning!)

I only hope the siren won't be scrapped.

Update: the old Siemens siren has been saved fortunately (after 10 years!) and totally refurbished and rewound. It has a new home now, on a school a few km away from its old location. An adventure with happy end for a great siren.
